Wetwheels Solent

What is
Wetwheels Solent?

Wetwheels Solent is a pioneering charity dedicated to providing barrier-free boating experiences for disabled people. As the flagship vessel of the Wetwheels Foundation, it operates from Portsmouth, offering fully accessible powerboat trips that empower individuals of all ages and abilities to enjoy the thrill of being out on the water. With a focus on participation, not just observation, Wetwheels Solent enables wheelchair users, including those with complex needs, to actively engage in helming the boat and feeling the freedom of the open sea. Since its inception in 2011, the charity has helped thousands of individuals experience the joy and confidence that comes from maritime adventure.

How it works

Wetwheels Solent offers a range of boating experiences designed to be inclusive, safe, and exciting. Each trip is tailored to the needs of participants, ensuring that everyone, regardless of mobility challenges, can take part. The fully accessible powerboat features a ramp for easy boarding and adapted controls that allow participants to steer the boat under expert guidance.

The experience is open to individuals, families, and groups, including schools, community organisations, and care homes. Whether it’s a short trip around the Solent, an educational excursion, or simply a chance to experience the thrill of speed on the water, Wetwheels Solent creates unforgettable moments for those who may otherwise face barriers to such activities.
